Aries Solar Eclipse

One door closes and another opens. Endings and beginnings are hallmarks of eclipses. During a solar eclipse, the moon casts a shadow over the earth; the shadow of consequences of past actions, habits and addictions to opinions. The earth is shifting beneath our feet. Here we are, there is no turning back.

Be present with what is essential. Breathe, embody, open your mind without losing focus to endless distractions. The present time is a valuable place to be. Craft the tension to form your intentions.

The Aries Solar Eclipse is closely conjunct Chiron, bringing vulnerability to the surface and drawing attention towards the healing needed within us and in our world.

Mars (ruler of Aries) is closely conjunct Saturn (exact on April 10), an indicator of the heaviness that many are experiencing now.  How may we be firmly grounded in the present and carry the weight of our responsibilities? Go slowly… yet the fire of Aries prefers to move quickly. There’s the rub. Ditto with Mercury retrograde in Aries: how to we deal with patience and impulsiveness? Complexities are highlighted during this eclipse passage- which may be uncomfortable, motivating or agitating. There are several awkward and edgy aspects during this time… so much going on, moving fast… Beware of trying to accomplish everything at once and missing out on important details.

In contrast, this eclipse is in a series of eclipses associated with inventiveness and flashes of genius. Intuitive leaps, insights and vivid dreams.

Feeling fierce and unfettered or irritated and burnt out? Solar eclipses also highlight the need for rest and replenishment as much as an eclipse in Aries impels us to freedom and action. Respect your instincts. Balance the long term with the here and now.

After the eclipse gauntlet, Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Taurus comes along just in time, with enthusiasm and faith for the future. Scientific and technical breakthroughs. revolutions, political rebellions. What house holds the sign of Taurus in your natal chart? This area of your life is where you may experience flashes of insight, a surge of enthusiasm for growth, expansion, freedom and adventure. Even more if the conjunction is in close aspect to natal planets and points in your chart.

Jupiter conjunct Uranus will bring fabulous surprises to some people. Jupiter tends towards exaggeration. Uranus for the unexpected. In Taurus – extravagance, material gain, sensuality and indulgence perhaps. Really, these sorts of predictions are what the general public wants to hear from astrology! But there are bound to be some lucky breaks and crazy optimism going around. If you begin a new venture or are infused with a new vision, it might be off to an auspicious start or be a flash in the pan. It’s temporary, so give it some time to settle in and see what sticks.

Solstice. Here we are again.
Not the same, but changed we are
on the spiral path,
spinning around our guiding star.

The Wheel turns, the seasons change.
Moving forward? Maybe.
Life’s course is not linear.
Each moment threads into a cosmic design.

Beneath the dance of celestial bodies,
we grapple with the politics of our beliefs,
and judgments that stifle
wisdom’s fire, compassion, and understanding.

In the intricate weave of existence,
passions of anger, righteousness,

poisoned water, earth and air,

Scorpio New Moon

Core Challenge

On the heels of October’s eclipses and the tender depths of The Days of the Dead, we are swimming in the murky waters of Scorpio New Moon. Although the waters are turbid, there are jolts of insight and upsets. Restless, edgy, seems that anything can happen. Uranus opposes this new moon, challenging us to discover hidden parts of ourselves and our society. Rapid change and upheaval are themes.

Add to this, Mars in Scorpio is closely conjunct the new moon and opposite Uranus. The configuration is in the fixed signs of Scorpio and Taurus, resistant to change. A reckless, pushy, courageous, and often angry combo. Forceful. Volatile.

Sun and Mars are conjunct all month, exact on November 18, an alignment that comes around every two years. Although it’s been 32 years since Sun and Mars conjunct in Scorpio! Scorpio is at home in Mars, so this is particularly strong. Look to where 21-28 degrees Scorpio lands in your chart for what may feel like intense endings and a kick-start of new beginnings.

Ring of Fire

Solar Eclipse Libra

The Moon is at its farthest point from the Earth during an annular solar eclipse. Between the Sun and the Earth, the moon partially blots out the sun’s rays, creating a ring of fire.

 

The ring of fire is a portal of significant endings and beginnings.

A Solar Eclipse changes the way we perceive the order of our lives. We see a shadow where we depend on seeing light. We may be startled by our own shadows and try to throw them on someone else! The darkness accentuated by an eclipse can bring a sharp focus of clarity into our field of vision.

The most recent periods in this larger eclipse cycle occurred in October 2005, September 1987, September 1969, and September 1951.

Paraphrasing Bernadette Brady from her work on Eclipses and the Saros Cycles in The Eagle and The Lark:

“Immense power, anger and force is channeled into this family of eclipses. Huge obstacles will suddenly and easily clear or, on the negative side, a pending potential crisis will suddenly manifest and move through very rapidly. Either way we will feel that everything is moving at a great speed.”

Plant seeds of equanimity, tolerance and diplomacy with awareness. Sun, Moon and Mercury conjunct in Libra.

Mars, planet of action, vigor and self-assertion is in its home sign of Scorpio. This is not the time to gloss things over. Get to the bottom of it. Got to be real. Social veneer distressed. Hidden problems become obvious.

Heads up and hearts open! This week and this lunar month provide insights towards current as well as future challenges and opportunites.

In fact, Pluto has been squaring the lunar nodes all summer and these two eclipses this month are a kicker. We just can’t keep doing dysfunctional “business as usual”. It’s awful and it’s hard and things have got to change. We have work to do.

On the heels of this summer’s Venus retrograde, both of October’s eclipses are Venus ruled (Libra and Taurus) which continues the focus on relationships, desire, and finances.  Notable aspects: Mercury conjunct Mars in Scorpio opposite Jupiter in Taurus. Think before you speak. Be careful with what you say, likely confrontation and inflammatory arguments. Favorable for strategic action, investigation, and research.
