Solar Eclipse Libra

The Moon is at its farthest point from the Earth during an annular solar eclipse. Between the Sun and the Earth, the moon partially blots out the sun’s rays, creating a ring of fire.

The ring of fire is a portal of significant endings and beginnings.

A Solar Eclipse changes the way we perceive the order of our lives. We see a shadow where we depend on seeing light. We may be startled by our own shadows and try to throw them on someone else! The darkness accentuated by an eclipse can bring a sharp focus of clarity into our field of vision.

The most recent periods in this larger eclipse cycle occurred in October 2005, September 1987, September 1969, and September 1951.

Paraphrasing Bernadette Brady from her work on Eclipses and the Saros Cycles in The Eagle and The Lark:

“Immense power, anger and force is channeled into this family of eclipses. Huge obstacles will suddenly and easily clear or, on the negative side, a pending potential crisis will suddenly manifest and move through very rapidly. Either way we will feel that everything is moving at a great speed.”

Plant seeds of equanimity, tolerance and diplomacy with awareness. Sun, Moon and Mercury conjunct in Libra.

Mars, planet of action, vigor and self-assertion is in its home sign of Scorpio. This is not the time to gloss things over. Get to the bottom of it. Got to be real. Social veneer distressed. Hidden problems become obvious.

Heads up and hearts open! This week and this lunar month provide insights towards current as well as future challenges and opportunites.

Pluto squares the Sun, Moon, Mars and the lunar nodes. Catharsis. Catalyst. Torn between the past and the future. In fact, Pluto has been squaring the lunar nodes all summer and these two eclipses this month are a kicker. We just can’t keep doing dysfunctional “business as usual”. It’s awful and it’s hard and things have got to change. We have work to do.

On the heels of this summer’s Venus retrograde, both of October’s eclipses are Venus ruled (Libra and Taurus) which continues the focus on relationships, desire, and finances. Notable aspects: Mercury conjunct Mars in Scorpio opposite Jupiter in Taurus. Think before you speak. Be careful with what you say, likely confrontation and inflammatory arguments. Favorable for strategic action, investigation, and research.

Autumn Equinox leads us
into the darkness,
from this point onward
daylight diminishes,
nighttime lengthens.

We are sifting
through the harvest stuff of our lives –
sweet joy and succulent fruits,
misshapen discards of
unfinished business,

Venus Retrograde Leo, Take Off the Mask

Cosmic beauty, Venus
morning star,
evening star,
waxing and waning,
her bright light loops across the sky.

Slipping into the underworld,
she disappears.
Time to face our fears.

Life on the flipside:
welcome new awareness,
the courage to love,
the strength to carry on
and the vitality for regeneration and healing.

As Venus retraces her steps, we travel through layers of impressions arising from memories, at times triggered by people and things from our past. Venus is the goddess of love in some cultures and the goddess of war in others.

Provocative questions about relationships arise. Is it worth it? Am I getting what I want? There is less tendency to gloss things over and even if we try, things might get more complicated. Better to be straightforward. It’s time to talk.

Values. The value of people in our lives. The value of things. Self-value.

Relationship to work: Am I getting paid enough? Am I putting in too much? There is a process of evaluation which may include considering self-esteem. Am I worthy?

Venus in Leo is traveling through each one of our astrological charts, you don’t have to “be a Leo”, you are alive in this evolutionary chapter of transformation.

Since Leo loves to be seen, acknowledged and downright adored, these themes are possible for all of us now, especially for those who feel ignored, lonely or unappreciated.

There is a bright side as well as a shadow side to every sign.

Consider some positive and shadow sides of Leo:

confident and self-assured / inhibited and overly self-conscious

loving and generous / egotistical and extravagant

courageous leadership / demanding and dictatorial

exuberant creativity / braggart

Additionally, Leo Venus squares Taurus Uranus three times in this cycle: (pre-retrograde, retrograde and post-retrograde) bringing spontaneity, excitement, disruption and new experiences into the mix.

A huge swath of the Pluto in Leo Generation, those born between 1946 and October of 1956, experience Venus retrograding over their natal Pluto (3x during the whole cycle). Very intense, even compulsive or manipulative behavior in relationships and financial matters. There is a potential for deep and powerful change. Intimacy, vulnerability. Alchemy. Alignment with life force!

July 22 – Venus Retrograde (28° Leo 36′).

August 9 – Venus squares Uranus

August 13 – Venus conjuncts Sun and begins a new phase of awareness. A significant turning point. Deep realizations are empowered. In the Underworld! Venus is the closest it will get to Earth in its entire 19-month cycle… the closest any planet is to the Earth.

September 3 – Venus station direct (12°Leo 12’).

October 7 – Venus exits post-shadow (28° Leo 36′).

Venusian Contemplations

Now – Look at the developments during the past month for clues as to your personal themes and areas of transformation.

Then – 8 years ago. Venus retrograde Leo in 2016. What endings and beginnings occurred during that time – especially within relatedness, love, creativity, values and money?

Look to your birth chart – where is Venus is transiting 12° – 29° Leo. Are there aspects to fixed signs (Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus) in your chart? Ask yourself if you are resistant or open to change.

Summer Solstice 2023

The Earth is spinning,
spin, spin, spinning
around the Sun.
It is natural.

Wired or wireless,
plugged in, connected,
people never seem
to stop spinning either.
What about stillness?

Some folks are awake at 3 am to be in the stillness,
others climb tall peaks,
drive to remote deserts,
or sit in a meditation retreat
to still the buzz and chatter.

June 21st is the heart of the Solstice
when the Sun appears to stand still
just for a few days.

What if
we each take pause
in our spin, spin, spinning.

Just a few moments

to acknowledge
we belong

to this incomprehensible solar system,
we are related to the birds singing outside our windows,
we are related to the whales that migrate thousands of miles in the ocean.

We walk the same ground as those who walked before us,
our actions have an effect on those
who will live on this earth after we are gone.

Here and Now

as spaciousness unfolds in stillness.

Take ahold and turn the golden key,
unlock the gateway of Solstice Light.
Open the sacred portal of your Life Fire.

Feel your heart beating as one
with the glowing heart of summer.
You are alive.

The Sun stands still for several days,
You haven’t missed it,
don’t hurry up or stress about it.
Create pause and invite stillness.
You are alive!

Solar Eclipse Raw & Retrograde

Aries Solar Eclipse

Taurus Mercury retrograde April 21 – May 14

Shake, rattle and roll! A rare hybrid solar eclipse is exact in the final degree of Aries. Reverberations ripple out through the end of April, into May and beyond.

The moon moves into Taurus in less than an hour after the solar eclipse and squares Pluto. The the sun follows to square Pluto the next day. Meanwhile, mercury is at a standstill and prepares to station retrograde on the 21^st. A fine mix of urgency in the midst of a muddle. Pluto plumbs and dredges the past. Power struggles and a need for completion or resolution. Something not budging. Anger. Digging in heels. Let go!

Mercury joins with the sun in Taurus at the midpoint of the retrograde cycle on May 1^st and coincides with Pluto station retrograde (May 1 – October 10). It’s worthwhile to assess priorities. Those who are experiencing pluto transits this year are most likely to sense the pressure.

The new moon impels us to take the initiative and break new ground. Mercury retrograde in Taurus moves in an unhurried pace. Rash action or conservative caution?

Feeling fierce and unfettered or irritated and burnt out? Solar eclipses also highlight the need for rest and replenishment as much as an eclipse in Aries impels us to action. Respect your instincts.

Ready or not, the immediacy of impulse propels us forward in one way or another.
