Taurus New Moon: Solar Eclipse

April 30, 2022 1:27 am PDT

Beltane, the seasonal cross quarter celebration – halfway between the spring equinox and summer solstice, is often observed on May 1st. Astronomically speaking, this year it is exact on May 5 at 5:25 am PDT. The rhythm of this week brings enlivening opportunities for fresh beginnings, fertility and growth.

Taurus new moon arrives with eclipse surprises, jeweled seeds, and delicious dreams into the upturned soil of our lives. It is a Solar Eclipse that emphasizes significant endings and beginnings. The tempo and tone is rapid, unexpected and often chaotic as Sun and Moon are conjunct Uranus, the Awakener, one of the transpersonal planets that spans a generation of collective change. Taurus’s inclination towards comfort and stability contrasts with the excitement and urgency of Uranus. Life moves quickly.

The eclipse brings attention to desire, possessions, income and investments – all earthly attachments. Modern culture has a great emphasis on commerce and ownership. Yet the web of life with which we are interconnected are earthy attachments that we take for granted. The destruction of our natural environment occurs daily, is widespread, and worldwide. Biodiversity is imperiled and we are mostly unaware of what life is slipping away. How may we act in kinship with all living creatures? How may each individual do something other than worry about it or distract from the harsh facts? The eclipse is time for each of us to reconsider our priorities.

Pluto station retrograde on April 29 coincides with the eclipse. We are called to look deeply and experience life intensely. Pluto is in the late degrees of Capricorn. (Pluto in Capricorn: November 27, 2008 to January 21, 2024 will venture in Aquarius March 23rd, 2023 then retrograde back into Capricorn on June 11th, 2023.) I’ve often referred to Pluto in Capricorn as the crumbling patriarchy. It’s been and continues to be a long, slow crumbling slog. But remember that Pluto is also about repair, reconstruction and rebirth. All of this at once. Intensely.

Look at your astrological chart to see where Taurus is located. Particularly for those with natal placements at 8°–12° of the fixed signs – Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius. It is where this Solar Eclipse will churn up new ground and where you’ll find both the gems and the old bones of your past.
