Venus Retrograde Leo, Take Off the Mask

July 18, 2023 By Jacqueline

Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word ‘love’ here not merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace – not in the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough and universal sense of quest and daring and growth.”
James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time

1024px Dibalik topeng 300x200 - Venus Retrograde Leo, Take Off the Mask

Cosmic beauty, Venus
morning star,
evening star,
waxing and waning,
her bright light loops across the sky.

Slipping into the underworld,
she disappears.
Time to face our fears.

Life on the flipside:
welcome new awareness,
the courage to love,
the strength to carry on
and the vitality for regeneration and healing.

As Venus retraces her steps, we travel through layers of impressions arising from memories, at times triggered by people and things from our past. Venus is the goddess of love in some cultures and the goddess of war in others.

Provocative questions about relationships arise. Is it worth it? Am I getting what I want? There is less tendency to gloss things over and even if we try, things might get more complicated. Better to be straightforward. It’s time to talk.

Values. The value of people in our lives. The value of things. Self-value.

Relationship to work: Am I getting paid enough? Am I putting in too much? There is a process of evaluation which may include considering self-esteem. Am I worthy?

Venus in Leo is traveling through each one of our astrological charts, you don’t have to “be a Leo”, you are alive in this evolutionary chapter of transformation.

Since Leo loves to be seen, acknowledged and downright adored, these themes are possible for all of us now, especially for those who feel ignored, lonely or unappreciated.

There is a bright side as well as a shadow side to every sign.

Disguise Fun 300x200 - Venus Retrograde Leo, Take Off the Mask

Consider some positive and shadow sides of Leo:

confident and self-assured / inhibited and overly self-conscious

loving and generous / egotistical and extravagant

courageous leadership / demanding and dictatorial

exuberant creativity / braggart

Additionally, Leo Venus squares Taurus Uranus three times in this cycle: (pre-retrograde, retrograde and post-retrograde) bringing spontaneity, excitement, disruption and new experiences into the mix.

A huge swath of the Pluto in Leo Generation, those born between 1946 and October of 1956, experience Venus retrograding over their natal Pluto (3x during the whole cycle). Very intense, even compulsive or manipulative behavior in relationships and financial matters. There is a potential for deep and powerful change. Intimacy, vulnerability. Alchemy. Alignment with life force!

Venus Retrograde in Leo 2023 Timeline

June 19, 2023
Venus entered the pre-shadow phase (12° Leo 12’).

July 22 – Venus Retrograde (28° Leo 36′).

August 9 – Venus squares Uranus

August 13 – Venus conjuncts Sun and begins a new phase of awareness. A significant turning point. Deep realizations are empowered. In the Underworld! Venus is the closest it will get to Earth in its entire 19-month cycle… the closest any planet is to the Earth.

September 3 – Venus station direct (12°Leo 12’).

October 7 – Venus exits post-shadow (28° Leo 36′).

Venus turns retrograde only once every eighteen months, The degrees at which it stations (where it goes retrograde and direct) form a five-pointed star. Learn about the eight-year cycle of Venus in our sky and the petals of Venus, a rhythmic motion of Venus when viewed from an Earth-centered perspective. https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/five-petals-of-venus/

Venusian Contemplations

Now – Look at the developments during the past month for clues as to your personal themes and areas of transformation.

Then – 8 years ago. Venus retrograde Leo in 2016. What endings and beginnings occurred during that time – especially within relatedness, love, creativity, values and money?

Look to your birth chart – where is Venus is transiting 12° – 29° Leo. Are there aspects to fixed signs (Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus) in your chart? Ask yourself if you are resistant or open to change.

The longer I live, the more deeply I learn that love — whether we call it friendship or family or romance — is the work of mirroring and magnifying each other’s light. Gentle work. Steadfast work. Life-saving work in those moments when life and shame and sorrow occlude our own light from our view, but there is still a clear-eyed loving person to beam it back. In our best moments, we are that person for another.”
Maria Popova

Summer Solstice 2023

June 20, 2023 By Jacqueline

“Wonder is part fascination, part ability to believe in things as they are, part willingness to be confused, even devastated at times, by the epic mysteriousness of ordinary things.”
Stephen Jenkinson, Die Wise

everafter by Janie Olsen 146x300 - Summer Solstice 2023

The Earth is spinning,
spin, spin, spinning
around the Sun.
It is natural.

Wired or wireless,
plugged in, connected,
people never seem
to stop spinning either.
What about stillness?

Some folks are awake at 3 am to be in the stillness,
others climb tall peaks,
drive to remote deserts,
or sit in a meditation retreat
to still the buzz and chatter.

June 21st is the heart of the Solstice
when the Sun appears to stand still
just for a few days.

What if
we each take pause
in our spin, spin, spinning.

Just a few moments

to acknowledge
we belong

to this incomprehensible solar system,
we are related to the birds singing outside our windows,
we are related to the whales that migrate thousands of miles in the ocean.

We walk the same ground as those who walked before us,
our actions have an effect on those
who will live on this earth after we are gone.

Here and Now

We are Alive and

Life is Precious.

“We often forget that we are nature. Nature is not something separate from us. When we say we are connecting with nature, we are connecting with ourselves.” Andy Goldsworthy

Summer Solstice

June 21, 2023 7:57 am PDT

Create pause and invite stillness.
You may find it, try it and
see or feel or notice

as spaciousness unfolds in stillness.

Take ahold and turn the golden key,
unlock the gateway of Solstice Light.
Open the sacred portal of your Life Fire.

Feel your heart beating as one
with the glowing heart of summer.
You are alive.

The Sun stands still for several days,
You haven’t missed it,
don’t hurry up or stress about it.
Create pause and invite stillness.
You are alive!

Affirmation:

I celebrate my strength and welcome Summer’s aliveness!

Coming up:
Venus retrograde in Leo July 22 – September 3, 2023
No doubt it will be a particularly dramatic passage with surprises in relationships, artistic expression and opportunities for healing. To be continued!

There’s more of course… that’s it for now. I invite you to contact me for a deeper look into your thread weaving through your personal cycles for 2023 and beyond.

Solar Eclipse Raw & Retrograde

April 18, 2023 By Jacqueline

Meeting the Dawn by Julie Dillon 193x300 - Solar Eclipse Raw & Retrograde

The last straw,
the end of the rope,
the nth degree.

The only ground to stand on
is the leading edge
and the instinctive leap to action.

Limits are pushed, boundaries are tested
or even attacked.

Instability. Delays.

More to dig up and discard
or surrender and let go.

Raw energy.
Courageous, competitive,
rash, agitated, bold
… or exhausted.

The depth, the core, the leap,
the courageous turbulent, volatile
Precipice of Now.

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy…the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
Brene Brown

Aries Solar Eclipse
April 19, 2023 9:12 pm PT

Taurus Mercury retrograde April 21 – May 14

Shake, rattle and roll! A rare hybrid solar eclipse is exact in the final degree of Aries. Reverberations ripple out through the end of April, into May and beyond.

The moon moves into Taurus in less than an hour after the solar eclipse and squares Pluto. The the sun follows to square Pluto the next day. Meanwhile, mercury is at a standstill and prepares to station retrograde on the 21st. A fine mix of urgency in the midst of a muddle. Pluto plumbs and dredges the past. Power struggles and a need for completion or resolution. Something not budging. Anger. Digging in heels. Let go!

Mercury joins with the sun in Taurus at the midpoint of the retrograde cycle on May 1st and coincides with Pluto station retrograde (May 1 – October 10).  It’s worthwhile to assess priorities. Those who are experiencing pluto transits this year are most likely to sense the pressure.

The new moon impels us to take the initiative and break new ground. Mercury retrograde in Taurus moves in an unhurried pace. Rash action or conservative caution?

Feeling fierce and unfettered or irritated and burnt out? Solar eclipses also highlight the need for rest and replenishment as much as an eclipse in Aries impels us to action. Respect your instincts.

Ready or not, the immediacy of impulse propels us forward in one way or another.

Tune into your personal sense of Now, your sensing, feeling body.

Affirm your intentions, align with integrity and take action. Be prepared to slow down.

How are your relationships changing?

Examine your natal chart: the houses that hold Aries, Taurus and Aquarius indicate areas or themes of transformation and inspiration.

Eclipse season is here. Next up: Scorpio Lunar Eclipse on May 5.

“Immensity is always there, but we so often become numb to it, or deceive ourselves into thinking our own lives and selves are what’s large. Step into the ocean or walk on Mount Tamalpais, and that kind of amnesia and self-centeredness isn’t possible. Enter the natural world at all, you see existence emerge, ripen, fall and continue, and you can’t help but feel more tender towards self and others.”

Threshold

March 9, 2023 By Jacqueline

Gateworld Julie Dillon sm 211x300 - ThresholdOn the verge,
the edge of,
the opening of what

is inevitable.
A new era.
The future arrives, and
it’s here and now.

Stand in this moment,
Be fully present in the upheaval,
the upwelling,
the surge.
Full speed ahead.

There is power and vision in these times,
as the past falls away and the future rushes in. Everything changes.
Be fully present in these moments
dancing at the threshold.

Each beginning is paired with an ending. Looking forward, trying to be done with the past… it’s usually not cut and dried. There is some back and forth. Preparations are planned while taking out the trash or squaring away the leftovers. Pulled in multiple directions. Without a doubt, change is here and there is no turning back. The threshold.

If the Wild Bird Could Speak Janie Olson 241x300 - ThresholdSaturn in Pisces tasks us to get serious about our beliefs, clarify our dreams and be realistic about our ideals. The wisdom and maturity in vulnerability. Boundaries and expectations are reconsidered and at times, simply dissolve.

As always, look to where/what house that Pisces is placed in your chart. During Saturn’s 2 ½ year transit through Pisces, the mutable signs of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius will be challenged to restructure and mature.

“Wonder is part fascination, part ability to believe in things as they are, part willingness to be confused, even devastated at times, by the epic mysteriousness of ordinary things.”
Stephen Jenkinson, from Die Wise

The Equinox (March 20) is always a kickstarter, and this year there are additional shifts in the gears that drive us forward. The following day, the Moon joins the Sun, fresh in Aries for a New Moon and square Mars as Pluto prepares to leave Capricorn and step into Aquarius (March 23). The mood is energetic, assertive or downright pushy. Everything changes.

Breakdown and breakthrough. Surrender and renew.

Pluto in Aquarius for three months this year offers a sense of what’s ahead for the next twenty years.

The planet of a catharsis, death and rebirth, power and fear is moving into a new expression. Pluto turns us inside-out. This isn’t our first go ‘round with Pluto, but we’re heading into a new and very different territory. A futuristic leap. I suspect that the rise of technology will play a big part, as will the organic forces of the natural world. Radical shifts in power dynamics.

How does this show up for you?  An examination of your birth chart towards what houses and planets are activated leads to greater insight.

After months of treading on thin air, Mars is activated, we gain traction and pick up speed!  Mars has been in Gemini (due to retrograde) since August 20, 2022 and moves into Cancer toward the end of the March. The mood is restless, motivated and reactive.

March 7 Virgo Full Moon

March 7 Saturn in Pisces

March 12 Jupiter conjunct Chiron

March 16 Venus in Taurus

March 19 Mercury in Aries

March 20 Equinox! Sun in Aries

March 21 New Moon in Aries

March 23 Pluto in Aquarius

March 25 Mars in Cancer

Notice all the planets changing signs in March 2023, we will be seeing the world through a changing lens and adjusting to new frames of reference. Multiple, steep learning curves.

Threshold
Seeds of Inquiry

What is falling away in my life?

Am I hanging on to what is no longer sustainable?

What does freedom look like for me?

“At any time you can ask yourself: At which threshold am I now standing? At this time in my life, what am I leaving? Where am I about to enter? What is preventing me from crossing my next threshold? What gift would enable me to do it? A threshold is not a simple boundary; it is a frontier that divides two different territories, rhythms, and atmospheres. Indeed, it is a lovely testimony to the fullness and integrity of an experience or a stage of life that it intensifies toward the end into a real frontier that cannot be crossed without the heart being passionately engaged and woken up. At this threshold a great complexity of emotion comes alive: confusion, fear, excitement, sadness, hope. This is one of the reasons such vital crossings were always clothed in ritual. It is wise in your own life to be able to recognize and acknowledge the key thresholds: to take your time; to feel all the varieties of presence that accrue there; to listen inward with complete attention until you hear the inner voice calling you forward. The time has come to cross.”

There’s a thread you follow…

January 1, 2023 By Jacqueline

There is light in this world by Debra Bernier 199x300 - There’s a thread you follow...The Way It Is

There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can’t get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.

by William Stafford
from Ask Me: 100 Essential Poems
Graywolf Press.

The days grow longer, the light is returning. Sun in Capricorn guides us to trust our roots, to practice constancy, act with maturity and take responsibility for our lives and for the generations ahead. May we listen. May we be wise and act with integrity. Breath by breath, day be day, hold on to the thread.

tiny mushrooms 200x300 - There’s a thread you follow...

New Year Musings

Planetary cycles circle ’round without respect to our calendar year. Yet, here is the new year 2023, a measurement of time to which we all adhere. I view life with a foot in each world: conventional calendar time and the interweaving cycles and phases of the planets and luminaries as voices that reflect our own personal cycles.

At the cusp of this calendar year, looking ahead at 2023… Pluto and Saturn, heavy-weights in the planetary line-up, are prominent players. Pluto is the voice of power, life-force and thorough transformation. Saturn stands for maturity, authority, responsibility and discipline. Both Pluto and Saturn are completing passage through one sign and evolving into the next.

Pluto moves through the final degrees of Capricorn (the journey began in 2008) and opens new vistas when dipping into Aquarius from March 23 – June 11 (Pluto will be in Aquarius January 2024 until 2043!). Then we continue to wrap up business in Capricorn for the rest of the year. What does that mean? It’s different for everyone. Generally speaking, There is a serious tone to our work, a year of tying up loose ends. A major move, getting rid of old possessions, retirement, consolidating finances, focused work on a degree. What is ending or coming to completion in your life?

3rd eye scaled 225x300 - There’s a thread you follow...Vibe Shift

During the spring, Pluto moves into Aquarius. What’s stirring, awakening and emerging? Upheaval, breakdown of structure. New ideas, new technologies, new communities. Idealism. The air element is strong. Open your sails to the wind.

Saturn enters Pisces: March 7, 2023 – May 24, 2025. Saturn is not easily expressed in the water element (and has not been in a water sign since the passage through Scorpio Oct 5 2012 – Sep 17, 2015). Vulnerability and insecurity is emphasized. Repressed fear and anxiety. Kindness and compassion for ourselves is always wise and is increasingly paramount. Who, what and how may we trust? Who or what supports us and who do we support?

Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
